OF SLAVES AND SONS

OF SLAVES AND SONS                 “For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19                 A slave does what he is told without asking questions. He is a slave and his job is to do what his master requires him to do whether he likes it or understands it or not.             A son, on the other hand, may ask many questions.   He may ask: “Why this and how that and when this or that?”… not because he doubts his father, but because he stands to inherit the family business some day and he wants to know how his father made it into the success   and how he does this and why he does that.                 Some religious institutions treat their people like slaves while others treat their people like sons. For instance in medieval times as scholar who dared to question the system could be branded as a heretic and burned at the stake for his questions. Even to this day there are institutions in which frustrate

WHO IS THIS MELCHIZEDEK?

WHO IS THIS MELCHIZEDEK?                 Some Bible scholars believe that He was the pre-incarnate Christ that visited Abraham as Melchizedek, king of Salem (Jerusalem), priest of the Most High God. This is a very impressive title and Abraham paid tithes to him of all the spoils he gained in the slaughter of the 5 kings that had ransacked Sodom and Gomorrah and had taken Lot and all the people back to be their slaves.                 We may think of Abraham as a gentle man of faith having no idea where he was going and yet when King Chedorlaomer along with other kings raided Sodom Abram gathered his 318 “Trained” servants and pursued these kings and took back all that had been stolen and all of the people that had been kidnapped and returned them to their land. The book of Hebrews calls it the slaughter of the kings.                 After Abram’s mighty victory Melchizedek showed up on the scene with bread and wine saying: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Posse

OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST

OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST                 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing, (handling accurately) the word of truth. 2 Tim, 2:15                 “So the word of the Lord to them will be Order on order,   order on order, Line on line, line on line, a little here, a little there” that they may go and stumble backward, be broken, snared and taken captive.” Isa. 28:13.                 When it comes to the Melchizedek Priesthood, as our lesson for this week covers, we find ourselves right at the heart of the age old struggle between law and grace… between new and old covenants and how to rightly apply them to our lives.                 There are many ways to interpret rightly dividing the word of God. Some believe that the world should be divided up into dispensations, each dispensation more or less mutually exclusive of each other. Others believe that we are to pick apart the word of God and to decide

THE THREE SCARIEST BIBLE TEXTS

THE 3 SCARIEST TEXTS IN THE BIBLE                 This Saturday at the food distribution I was momentarily discussing some points of prophecy with fellow church members that read my blog and one of them piped up and said “Fear Monger” and she was joking of course, because she watches the same prophecy programs that Bonnie and I watch. But she also knows the beating that prophecy teachers get from so called fellow Christians. The truth is that among Christians there are those who are very resistant to any discussion about end time prophecy. I am amazed at some people’s lack of curiosity                 I want you to understand that I explore and discuss many things and sometimes I go where angels fear to tread and sometimes I may appear to be tipping over sacred cows. So when I question certain doctrines say for instance the pre-trib rapture, I am not trying to be dogmatic or argumentative. I am only suggesting that we firm up our foundations with the Word of God.

HAPPY SABBATH

HAPPY SABBATH                 Today is the Sabbath day and Bonnie and I always look forward to Sabbath because it is the one day of the week when God gives us permission to do absolutely nothing. It is not a religious thing with us, but a day that we actually look forward to; when, without other obligations or distractions we can actually spend time with the Lord.                 We grew up going to church on Saturday, but because I was involved in ministry, Sabbath was usually my busiest, most stressful day. But now we can leave all of that kind of stress to Sunday so that we can actually observe the Sabbath just as the Bible describes it… by not doing any work. Oh glory!                 However, today is one of those “pull the ox out of the ditch” kinds of Sabbaths, because today we will be doing our monthly food distribution for the poor in our area and that is okay too.   In fact there is a lady now attending my Sunday school class who came in through this fee

WILLY

WILLY                 It was four o’clock this morning and I was performing my very simple first routine. I feed the cats first of all since walking is impossible until they get their breakfast. Then I put on a pot of coffee and retreat to my office/music studio to spend time with the Lord. It has become more and more a habit with me to wait upon the Lord as to what to write each day. Sometimes He prompts me with dreams…more often with the Bible or subjects I am studying. But this morning I was prompted by our volunteer cat Willy.                 Willy came to us a few months back when Bonnie’s sister, Suzanne was visiting. Out in the woods behind our house, they heard the mournful bleating of a very wet and lonely cat that was stuck in a tree. So Bonnie and Suzanne, being consummate animal lovers went out and rescued the cat. He was not much more than a kitten and he was very skinny. Bonnie and Suzanne took him to the humane society to try to match the cat up with his
