TIME FLIES
TIME FLIES
I don’t
know if time is speeding up or if I am slowing down. But life seems something
like a treadmill where some unseen hand keeps turning up the dial so that we
can barely keep up.
It is
already time once again to sort out the monthly truck load of food for second
harvest. On Saturday, the people will begin lining up by about 8 AM… the
parking lot and surrounding areas will be filled with cars and something close
to 300 people will come for the food that helps them make it through the rest
of the month.
When
Paul and Barnabas went up to Jerusalem to submit Paul’s Gospel to the early
church leaders and apostles, they were given the right hand of fellowship. And it
was understood that while Peter would head up the ministry to the Jews (The
circumcised) Paul would head up the ministry to the Gentiles and having agreed
to this, they sent Paul and Barnabas on their way with only one admonition, as
is reported in Galatians 2:10: “They only asked us to remember the poor- the very
thing I also was eager to do.”
To love
our neighbor as ourselves is to make sure that those, especially of the
household of God do not go hungry or homeless or desperate.
There
is not much we can do for God. He doesn’t need our food or our money per se,
for He owns it all anyway. So this is why God in His great unselfishness, gave
us the pleasure and duty of giving to others as if we are doing it for Him. We
give to those in need and it is counted as if we have given it to Him.
We
sometimes spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about every turn of
phrase in our doctrine, when in fact the judgment will be about what we did for
the poor, the naked, the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the sick and the
prisoner.
“And
the King will answer and say to them: ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that
you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it
to Me.” Mt. 25:40
And so
we are off to do the work of the kingdom. Have a blessed day. Jesus loves you!
