AN ADDENDUM

AN ADDENDUM

Messianic teachers such as Mark Biltz say that the Galatians came out of a pagan culture so when Paul talks about them falling back to the weak and worthless elements by observing days, months and seasons, he may have been talking about their falling back into pagan customs and not into Jewish customs.

Nevertheless it is clear that Paul is combatting the Jewish believer’s penchant for trying to impose Old Covenant laws upon New Covenant people. He is saying that those who are led by the Spirit have died to the Law in order to live unto Christ. The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth apart from the Law, which had no power to transform hearts or to make us into likeness of Christ.

The Law was never intended to save us, but to bring us to our death in Christ’s death so that we can be born again and to live in the power of His resurrection. This is what the Holy Spirit does in us. So the Law will be fulfilled in us who live according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh. Rom. 8:1-4
