NO WIN SITUATIONS
NO WIN SITUATIONS
“I
disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say
it.” Evelyn Beatrice Hall.
Some of
the issues that we as Christians face in these last days seem to force us into
no win situations. For instance, as it concerns the issue of Christmas:
First of
all we know that the date for Christmas is at least partially of pagan origin.
So some people are against the celebration of Christmas and among those the
Messianic Jews that choose to observe only the Lord’s appointed Feasts. There are
others as well who for one reason or another choose not to observe Christmas.
Those include Jehovah’s Witnesses and
others.
Some
have said that if God wanted us to know the time of Jesus’ birth He would have
told us. However, with the information given us in the Bible concerning the
reign of the kings and the cycles of the Jewish Priests make it possible to
know exactly when Zacharias, John the Baptists father served as a priest in the
temple. So (Thanks to the dead sea scrolls that gave us the courses of the
priests) we can take the other precise timings of Elizabeth and Mary and such,
and come up with a pretty accurate timing of the birth of Jesus. So the information
is in the Bible for those who want to seek it out.
But
there is an issue in the world today concerning Christmas that is bigger than
that. The truth of the matter is that the war against Christmas is not so much
about the day as it is about Jesus Himself. We are engaged in a war against
Jesus Christ Himself and the world’s desire to bury His name forever.
Given
this fact, we are faced with the reality that to do away with Christmas would be
a major blow to the cause of Christianity. Christmas stands, along with Easter
as one of the two of the great testimonies of the existence and mission of
Jesus Christ. One bears the testimony that Jesus Christ was born into the human
family. He was born in the likeness of sinful flesh. He came into the world to
redeem us and to reconcile us to His Father, to save us from our sins and to be
born in us by His Spirit so that we can grow up in Him to share His glory and
His throne.
Likewise
Easter stands as another witness to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,
and because Easter bears witness to the truth of His resurrection, it also bears
witness to the truth that He will come again as promised to receive us unto Himself
so that where He is, there we may be also.
In
other words, if you believe that the events of Christmas and Easter are true,
then you agree to the validity of God’s Word and if these two miraculous events
are true then the rest of the Bible is true as well. There can be no agreement
with the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus without agreeing that His Word
is true
What we
might say then, is that to do away with both Christmas and Easter would be to
shoot ourselves in the foot by doing away with two of the great witnesses to the
birth, death and resurrection of our Messiah Jesus Christ the Lord.
So, to
take a firm stand against these two institutions is a no win situation. How
much better off we would be to take our stand for Jesus Christ and His Word and
to let Christmas and Easter take care of themselves. They still bear witness to
Jesus Christ, His birth, His death on our behalf and His resurrection and as
such they also bear witness to the truth of God’s Word and the validity of His promise
that He will come again.
The signs
of His coming are everywhere and even as the virgins sleep and argue about
petty things, the antichrist is building his final kingdom… and we will soon
have to defend our faith in Jesus Christ and His Word with our very lives. The
issue then is not going to be about Christmas or Easter, but whether we are
willing to stand for Jesus Christ and His Word or if we will give in and
receive the Mark of the Beast, which will represent our final rejection of
Jesus as our Savior and Lord. Think on these things.
Our
right to proclaim the name of Jesus is on the chopping block right now as the hordes
of the coming antichrist are surging ahead to remove all freedom of speech for
those who speak the truth. Let us make sure that the truth for which we may
give our lives is a truth worth telling.
