TRUTH

                Grace and peace to you through Jesus Christ our Lord.

                We are told that our galaxy is traveling through space at 143 miles per second. So by the time you can say one thousand and one, we are 143 miles from where we were. But that is not all: In addition to that our solar system is traveling around our galaxy at an approximate speed of 420,000 miles per hour. But just in case you haven’t suffered from a case of vertigo yet, we are also travelling around our sun at a speed of 66,000 miles per hour and on top of that we are spinning on our axis at about 1040 miles per hour.

                I think that as we get older we become more sensitive to all of that movement and we begin to totter. (Tee hee hee) But one good thing about getting older is that if we are wise and if we have been paying attention; we also become more sensitive and responsive to the one thing that is unmoving in this universe…TRUTH!

                Jesus Christ our wonderful Lord is the solid Rock upon which we stand. He dwells outside of both time and space. He remains unmovable and unchanging. In Him is life and the life is the light of the world. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. His Word is truth and Jesus said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” Jn. 8:32

                But nothing compares to the dizzying array of opinions that have been unleashed upon our world by the enemy of truth. America was once built on fairly solid foundations of truth, but it is like in about the 1960s someone stuck an egg beater into our carefully layered cake and blended  it into a meaningless mass of opposing opinions. Truth has been scrambled and society is reeling into an ever increasing madness.

                Unhinged from what was once the standard by which all truth is founded, we are now on a maddening race toward complete chaos. Look at the news, look at politics, look at our weather, look in any direction and all we can do is to shake our heads. Everyone is angry. Everyone hates everyone else. Everyone hates leadership and authority. Even many churches are becoming unhinged as they try to adjust to this madness rather than to remain fastened to the Solid Rock of Truth. So religion itself becomes a part of the problem rather than a part of the solution.

                If we try to remain fastened to that stability of truth that once governed our nation and made it into the greatest nation to ever exist in history, we are now called ultra- rightwing looneys… terrorists to be feared as a threat to society. And yet they riot in the streets, a perverted and ungodly picture of chaos itself… a mob crying “Crucify Him.”

                But they are dancing on the Titanic. They are competing for first prize on a boat to nowhere and the band that is now playing a rhythmic beat for the people to dance to, will soon be playing “Nearer My God to Thee” and a vast majority will not even know what that means.

                Listen my friends: we should treasure above every other thing the truth upon which our hearts are fixed. “We have this treasure in earthen vessels…” Truth is not far from us like some inane philosophy or an opinion of man. Truth is near to us, even in our mouths as we speak, because we don’t speak words coined by man, but words spoken through time and space by the only unmovable One, the only Source of truth and reality Jesus Christ. We stand upon the Word of God and not upon our own opinions. We speak the words of the One who created us and everything that exists.

                We can search the world over and empty every library in search of the one truth upon which all that is truth exists and we will only find one unshakeable and unchanging and unalterable source and that is the Word of God.

                “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him and apart from Him; nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life and the life was the light of men, and the light shined in the darkness, but the darkness did not comprehend it. But as many as  received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:1-4, 12-14.

                “But an hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit; and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23, 24

                “But when He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He shall glorify Me; for He shall take of Mine and shall disclose it to you.” John 16:13, 14.

                “Sanctify them in truth; Thy word is truth.” John 17:17.

                “Father, I desire that they also whom thou hast given Me be with Me where I am, in order that they may behold My glory which Thou has given Me; for Thou didst love Me before the foundation of the world.” John 17:24.

                “Then the King will say to those on His right, (the ultra- rightwing looneys) ‘Come you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Mt. 25:34.

                “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be  the first-born among many brethren; and whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified these He also glorified.” Romans 8:29, 30

                “For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God; for the creation was subjected to futility not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body,.” Romans 8:19-23

                “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow-heirs with Christ, if in deed we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.” Romans 8:14, 16-17.

                In all of this chaos of movement and fury and the vain opinions of mankind, how precious is truth to you?

                Is it worth living for?

                Is it worth dying for?

                I say “YES!” And today I take my stand upon Christ the solid Rock and upon His Word, the only source of truth in this spinning universe. I invite you to make this stand with me, for we have this Treasure in earthen vessels that the power may be of God and not from ourselves. 2 Cor. 4:7

                “For God, who said, “Light shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. For we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves. We are always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh…”

                The darker this world becomes, the more precious it has become to place all of our hope and trust in the one thing that will never fail us… TRUTH… Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
