STANDING ON BIG SHOULDERS
STANDING ON BIG SHOULDERS
I stand
on the shoulders of my Dad, who had a great hunger to get below the surface and
to understand the whole plan of salvation from beginning to end. When I was a
teenager and going through a rebellious stage, my Dad would not talk to me
about what I was doing wrong, instead he would present the big picture of God's
plans and purposes to me and I would soon see the folly of my ways in light of
God's plan for my life. Having godly parents is a legacy that so many people
don't have and so they tend to grow up with a shallow understanding of the
Christian life.
I
continue Dad’s quest for understanding and to share with others who have a like
hunger to know the ways of the Lord.
My mother was more of a bread and butter,
practical person and solid in her faith, and she played no less of a role in my
life. From Dad I had the example of the thrill of the hunt, and from Mom I had
an example of stability, steadfast faith and unconditional love. I am still
trying to grow into those roles, for I stand on some very big shoulders.
