DOGS

DOGS

My brother Bob and I were discussing our pets the other day and how we love them and are blessed by them. However, there are pets that we love and then there are pets that cross the boundaries of understanding to form a bond of friendship that is all-consuming.

Bob said that he could understand my great sense of sorrow and loss at the death of Desi, but only because he has such a dog himself. His name is Ewok. He said that Ewok can look at him with a passionate love that is soul gripping and unfathomable. We almost begin to wonder if we are actually worthy of such unguarded love and devotion.

But if a dog is capable of that kind of love, how much more must our Creator love us? Can we not learn something from such love?

I said to Bob: “Perhaps if we could look into the eyes of Jesus, we would see that same kind of unconditional love, untainted, uninhibited… searching our hearts for a return look of the same kind.”

May we yet, by His grace, have this kind of love for God and for each other.
