WHEAT AND TARES
WHEAT AND TARES
They
all look the same in the field. Moving from green to golden brown; they stand
straight and tall in the warmth of the sun. The only real difference appears
near harvest time. The wheat begins to bow its head as it bears its load of
fruit. Meanwhile the tare remains straight and tall and full of pride. It has
not learned humility; nor has it borne fruit.
“I am the
vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much
fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. “John 15:5
“But the
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control: against such things there is no law.”
As my
son Zach would say: What sword can be
drawn against the demons with these two verses? It
is only in our vital connection with Jesus Christ that anything of eternal
value is produced in our lives and the fruit of that connection is love as it
is expressed through joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control. Every one of the fruit of the Spirit is a sword against the demons.
When we fail to express these fruits in our lives we become a part of the
darkness rather than a part of the light.
Remain therefore
connected to the Vine and you will produce the fruit of the Spirit; for the One
who said, “Let there be light” has also shed His light abroad in our hearts.
May we come to the harvest, heads bowed with much fruit.
